而這眼光看的不僅是現實,更是夢,以及夢醒時分的朦朧狀態(h y p n a g o g i c s t a t e),跨越時間與空間,打破邏輯常理。

而她的藝術背後具有豐富的元素與極為細膩複雜的網絡,交織著主意識的懷疑與潛意識的踏實,兩者融合為一,成為一種超級朦朧狀態(h y p e r — h y p n a g o g i c s t a t e)。

看似矛盾卻毫無違和感的平靜(e q u i l i b r i u m)加上永無止境的好奇感,是看見 的藝術會產生的特殊感官與體會。

Infinite Chambers of Hidden Sincerity On Lupa’s Art

By Jason Chung Tang Yen

“The most pivotal elements in art are the love for all lives and a candid soul.” —— Lupa

In her oeuvre, one can see the universe, the and landscape within minds. Does this universe exist within, or merely an invisible “star of the hearts” in the glittering milky way? Born in 1989, Lupa clearly possesses an old soul. Her candid heart towards art conveys a unique point of view and aesthetics. Her viewpoint is not just from reality but also dreams, and the hypnagogic state in between lucidity and the realm of fantasy beyond space and time and logic. She feels there are many chambers in one’s heart, the images we see from her works are perhaps from these various “heart chambers”, that are of both realities and dreams.

To Lupa, “art is desire and instinctively primitive.” Creating art is breathing to her, constantly pondering, balancing imagination and reason, there are mythologies, fairy tales, poetic resonance, beauty, and fear. Her art, as if building a bridge in between parallel worlds, gives people access to new territories that defy all existing rules. Sincerity hidden within endless rooms, or chambers within the heart, is the heart within heart chambers, this is beyond explanation by logic. Every heart chamber has a door, the split moment when one holds the doorknob, an eternity of life and everything within suddenly materialise in the illusory sea of the mind, like roses with thorns, beauty comes with hidden perils. Only with a sincere heart, one will not get lost in the endless rooms.

In the vibrant and dazzling colours of the subject and contrast, Lupa is not restrained by a single medium, as it is a channel of artistic expression, she is in control of various materials, the essence lies within the artist’s artistic spirit and messages. Beneath her art, there is a highly sophisticated and complex network of abundant motifs, interweaving the doubts of the main consciousness and the practicality of the subconsciousness, merging the two into a hyper-hypnagogic state.

Seemingly paradoxical but no sense of conflict, this equilibrium added upon the never ending curiosity, is an extraordinary after-effect on the senses of observing Lupa’s art. Every work is like her internal puer aeternus, whispering the immeasurable secrets that is boundless. On her own art, she said: “with the longing for beauty and the fear from the subconsciousness, my art is not about mere aesthetics, but finding harmony in beauty and ugliness, good and evil.” This harmony is thoroughly expressed in the hypnagogic state of her art, at the same time, revealing a part of the balance of dreams and realities while withholding parts of the hidden secrets.

“After all, all is but a dream, what is reality after waking up from a century of dreams.”

From the poem “Even” by Huang Geng, Late Song / Early Yuan Dynasty
